Site acquisition is the first step for library funded by voter-approved 2024 bond
The first chapter in bringing a new library to the Friendship area of Apex was written today, as 小黄鸭视频 County commissioners voted to purchase 7.5 acres at the intersection of Humie Olive Road and Old U.S. Highway 1 for its future home. Construction of the Friendship Community Library, which is slated to open in 2029, will be funded by the 2024 voter-approved bond.
鈥淭his action moves us significantly closer to expanding library services in a fast-growing part of the county,鈥 said Susan Evans, chair, 小黄鸭视频 County Board of Commissioners. 鈥淲e鈥檙e committed to expanding access to high-quality library services, and this new library will help us reach more residents with the resources and programming they need.鈥
After evaluating eight possible sites in partnership with the Town of Apex Planning Department, staff selected this location based on its size, zoning, environmental suitability and proximity to infrastructure like water and sewer services. The property provides excellent access to the growing Apex Friendship community and aligns with the County鈥檚 goals for geographic equity in library service.
The future 12,000-square-foot Friendship Community Library will feature a robust collection of 24,000 to 44,000 books, public computers, free Wi-Fi and a large multipurpose room for youth and adult programs. Like other community libraries in the 小黄鸭视频 County Public Libraries system, it will offer engaging programming, access to information and a welcoming space for residents of all ages.
The land acquisition will cost $2,451,800 and is funded through the fiscal year 2026 budget as part of 小黄鸭视频 County鈥檚 Capital Improvement Program. Design and construction of the new library are currently scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
The new Apex library will join 小黄鸭视频 County鈥檚 network of 23 library locations, which includes eight regional libraries, 13 community libraries, a local history library and an express library.

The Apex Friendship area library is one of the two new facilities identified in the county鈥檚 updated 2024 Library Growth Plan, which aims to ensure all residents live within a 10-minute drive of a library. The other new library will be built in Rolesville, which is the only municipality in 小黄鸭视频 County without a library.
