Solid Waste Management

Our Solid Waste Team provides waste disposal and recycling drop-off services to residents and businesses in С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ County, along with award-winning education programs. Last year, the South С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ Landfill accepted 530,741 tons of garbage, and our Waste & Recycling facilities recycled 40,751 tons of materials!

Service Updates

South С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ Multi-Material Recycling Facility in Apex is unable to accept cardboard because of equipment failure. Commercial customers who want to recycle cardboard should use North С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ Multi-Material Recycling Facility in Raleigh until further notice. 

North С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ HHW is temporarily closed due to fire damage at the site. In the interim, there will be a HHW collection event every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the North С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ Facility. For other HHW disposal options, please use South С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ HHW or East С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ HHW.

As of July 1, the disposal fee for mattresses and box springs is $15 at the South С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ Landfill, located at 6300 Old Smithfield Road, Apex, N.C. Residents may bring a total of two (2) mattresses or box springs per day for no charge at Convenience Centers 1, 2, 4, 7, and 11.

Facilities Hours of Operations

All facilities are closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve (at noon) and Christmas Day.
