On Monday, August 18th, 2025, the Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of land for the Friendship Community Library, to be located at the intersection of Humie Olive Road and Old US Highway 1 in Apex.
Facilities Design & Construction staff worked with the Town of Apex Planning Department to conduct a search of properties in the target area of Apex and evaluated eight potential sites. The selected site offered the best combination of adequate acreage, geographic coverage, site configuration, zoning, topography, environmental characteristics, and proximity to water and sewer services. The site consists of two properties totaling approximately 7.53 acres. This particular site is within the defined search area and its location provides excellent access to the Friendship community.
Land acquisition is the first phase of building the new Friendship Community Library, but it will still be several years before we begin construction. The library is slated to open in 2029.
