Overview
С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Permits & Inspections now offers Live Remote Inspections (LRI) for certain building inspections in unincorporated areas of С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County and the towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon. Remote inspections will closely follow the as provided by the Qualifications Board. LRIs offer an efficient way to conduct inspections via digital tools, enabling customers to connect with inspectors remotely, saving time and enhancing flexibility.
How it Works
The Live Remote Inspection (LRI) program currently focuses on re-inspections. If a failed inspection is eligible for remote re-inspection, the certified inspector will note this on the inspection report and provide instructions for scheduling the remote re-inspection. Remote inspections are strictly voluntary.
Eligibility
- Live Remote re-inspection is at the discretion of the inspector when the non-compliant item is minor and not life safety.
- Live Remote re-inspections shall be performed by the same inspector that conducted the original inspection.
- Live Remote re-inspections must take place no later than 10 business days from the original inspection.
- NO Electrical except rooftop PV systems or HVAC mechanical changeouts.
- NO Fuel Gas or Ventilation of appliances.
- NO inspections to be deemed Life Safety Inspections.
How to Schedule Your Remote Re-Inspection
- Check your inspection report for eligibility and scheduling instructions.
- Contact the inspector as indicated to arrange your remote re-inspection time.
- Follow the requirements and preparation guidelines below for a smooth inspection experience.
Technology Requirements
To participate in a remote inspection, customers will need:
- A smart device with a working camera.
- Reliable 4G or higher internet connection at the inspection site.
- Access to specific tools and materials needed for the inspection, such as permits, plans, a GFCI tester, a flashlight, a tape measure, etc.
Preparing for Your Remote Inspection
Please follow these steps to ensure a successful remote inspection:
- Check Your Connection: Confirm a stable 4G or higher internet connection. If the LRI cannot be accomplished, a traditional inspection will be scheduled as soon as possible.
- Prepare Your Device: Ensure your camera works and test it beforehand.
- Gather Required Documents and Tools: Bring your permit, plans and any relevant tools (such as a level, tape measure or flashlight).
- Set Up Your Inspection Area: Clear any obstructions, minimize background noise and set your device to 'Do Not Disturb.'
- Be Ready to Show the Location: Prepare to start at the road or in front of the job site and proceed to the posted permit location to visually see the permit. In cases where a permit placard is not posted, the front of the structure and posted property address numbers shall be visually shown.
Note: The inspector may end the inspection at any time due to a poor connection or the permit holder not performing according to the inspector’s instructions.
