All rentals are FREE for 2 hours, and require a valid photo ID to rent. All rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved in advance. Life vests and paddles are provided.

Customers must be at least 18 years of age, or 16 years of age accompanied by a parent or guardian on the water. As a reminder, visitors are always welcome to launch their own boats at locations indicated in the park. See the 鈥淧ublic Boat Launching鈥 section below.

Rental Info

Rules

  • Life vests MUST be worn at all times (Type III required).
  • Dogs are allowed on boats, but they MUST have a lifejacket.
  • Swimming is not allowed.
  • You must be 18 years old to rent a boat.
  • You must be 16 years of age or older to use a boat solo.
  • All fishing at Lake Crabtree County Park is catch and release only.
  • Rentals last for 2 hours 鈥 please return your boat in a timely manner.

How to Rent

  • Step 1: Go to the Lake Crabtree County Park Boat House and go to the customer service window.
  • Step 2: Select what type of boat you would like to borrow.
  • Step 3: Give staff a valid ID and sign a waiver (examples include driver鈥檚 license, student ID, military ID, passport, state ID).
  • Step 4: Get a lifejacket and paddle for your boat.
  • Step 5: Have fun on the water!!
  • Step 6: Return to shore with all of your equipment and get your ID from the staff.

Types of Boats

  • Single kayak (one person, weight limit of 250 pounds)
  • Double kayak (two people, weight limit of 450 pounds)
  • Canoe (two adults, one small child seated in the middle, weight limit 800 pounds)
  • Stand up Paddle Board (one person, weight limit 250 pounds)
  • Pedal Boat (up to four people, weight limit 550 pounds)

Additional Activities on the Lake

Fishing

Fishing is a popular pastime at Lake Crabtree County Park. A fishing pier and platform provide handicap accessibility. Fishing is permitted in designated areas only. The park offers a Tackle Loaner Program through the . Visit the Park Office Monday鈥揟hursday or the Boat Rental Facility Friday鈥揝unday during the Boat Rental Season to ask about the Tackle Loaner Program. All participants must have a valid fishing license, provide their own bait, and return fishing equipment to the either the place you checked it out or the locker behind the park office if there are no staff available to process the return.

Any person 16 and older fishing in public waters MUST have a fishing license. Children under 16 years of age must be with a licensed adult to fish.

PCB Information and Fishing Advisory

In mid-May 2004, Lake Crabtree County Park was notified of elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the fish. Since this time, a North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) fish consumption advisory has been in effect.

Public Boat Launching

Lake Crabtree is ideal for water sports like paddling, sailing and rowing. The park offers accessible, year-round public boat launch areas, including a two-lane ramp for trailered craft and car-top launch areas. Only non-gasoline-powered motors are allowed. Please note that the lake closes a half hour before closing time.
