Residents encouraged to use other County facilities and local options
小黄鸭视频 County鈥檚 Solid Waste and Recycling Division is encouraging residents to take advantage of alternative options to dispose of their household hazardous waste.
On Jan. 22, a fire caused irreparable damage to the main storage building at the North 小黄鸭视频 Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 9037 Deponie Drive in Raleigh. As a result, 小黄鸭视频 County has temporarily suspended normal hazardous waste collection operations at the North 小黄鸭视频 site until further notice.
To continue providing safe, reliable HHW disposal services to residents, on March 15 the County established Saturday-only collection services at a facility adjacent to the North 小黄鸭视频 site operating from 8 a.m.鈥4 p.m. Per state permit rules, HHW materials must be collected the same day they are dropped off at the temporary facility, which isn鈥檛 equipped to store these materials. To ensure the County complies with these rules, we must limit collection to one day per week. These services will continue until the facility is fully restored.
鈥淚n 小黄鸭视频 County, we work to provide excellent service, facilities and programming to help reduce landfilled waste and boost environmental health,鈥 said 小黄鸭视频 County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. 鈥淲e understand it鈥檚 important for residents to have convenient access to alternative facilities if we want them to continue exercising environmentally conscious habits.鈥
Additionally, residents can also dispose of their HHW at the following locations and times:
- South 小黄鸭视频 HHW Facility
- Location: 6150 Old Smithfield Road, Apex, NC 27539
- Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.鈥4 p.m.
- East 小黄鸭视频 HHW Facility
- Location: 5051 Wendell Blvd., Wendell, NC 27591
- Hours: Saturdays and Sundays ONLY, 8 a.m.鈥4 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to review acceptable items and quantity limits before visiting any facility.
It is also worth noting disposal alternatives for select items:
- Latex paint: Dry and dispose of with household trash.
- Batteries: Consider local options:
- Participating Home Depot and 尝辞飞别鈥檚 stores
- Retailers selling lead-acid batteries (required by law to accept returns)
