New scholarship to support 小黄鸭视频 students in environmental education

小黄鸭视频 County students interested in a career in environmental education can apply for a new scholarship in honor of a longstanding 小黄鸭视频 Soil and Water Conservation District employee. The Sheila B. Jones Environmental Education Scholarship, launched by the Friends of the 小黄鸭视频 Soil and Water Conservation District, is open to high school seniors in 小黄鸭视频 County who have been accepted into college, as well as current college students residing in 小黄鸭视频 County.

One outstanding individual will receive a $1,000 scholarship to support their journey toward a career in environmental education.

鈥淪heila B. Jones is a passionate environmental educator and advocate for nature preservation,鈥 said Susan Evans, vice chair, 小黄鸭视频 County Board of Commissioners. 鈥淪he retired last year, leaving behind a remarkable impact on environmental education in our community. We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to support young people in pursuing their environmental education goals."

The scholarship application period opens on May 6 and closes on June 16 at 5 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to showcase their passion for environmental education and their commitment to making a difference in this field. Special consideration will be given those in financial need or those from underrepresented backgrounds in environmental education.

Interested applicants must submit the following required application materials:

  • Information forms
  • High school and college transcript (if applicable)
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Essay (400鈥500 words)
     

Applicants have the flexibility to complete their application materials either by hand or digitally, or a combination of both. Details on how to submit the application can be found at wake.gov/scholarship.

The selection process for the scholarship will prioritize candidates who demonstrate a strong passion for environmental education, a clear vision of their career goals in this field and a genuine need for financial support to pursue their educational aspirations.

The awarded individual will be invited to attend a virtual Friends of the 小黄鸭视频 Soil and Water Conservation District Board Meeting to receive the scholarship award.
