Library Administration Building Project

Library Administration Building as seen from its driveway

The Library Administration Building, currently located at 4020 Carya Drive in Raleigh, was built in 1987 to house the Administrative Staff and Technical Services staff. Since that time, the needs of the С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Library System have evolved, and now central services that operate out of the Library Administration Building include Library Administration, Library Information Technology, Collection Development Services, Library on the Go (the library system’s outreach vehicles) and Library Awareness (communications and graphic design). Additionally, the building is used to store and transport library books throughout the system, with three courier routes departing from and returning to the Library Administration Building each weekday.

The age of the building and the changes to how it is used led to its inclusion in the 2024 Library Bond project list.

On June 9, 2025, С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County’s Facilities Design & Construction Staff presented with CPL Architects to the С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Board of Commissioners. They proposed redevelopment of the С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Office Park to house a joint facility for Library Administration Building functions and С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County’s General Services department, offering better use of a County-owned site. The new Library Administration Building and site will allow for more effective library operations and will accommodate future growth needs for the library system.
