C.L. Mann
Surveyor C.L. Mann is most noted for surveying much of the unclaimed coastal land and some of the early developments in Raleigh, NC. Mann served as a member of a U.S. government survey party that explored the possibilities of digging a canal across Nicaragua. He was a North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State Board of Examiners for Engineers and Land Surveyors member for 25 years. Mann graduated from NC State University in 1899 with a degree in civil engineering. He later returned to his alma mater to head the Department of Civil Engineering, a post he held for 47 years.
