
In 2018, voters passed a $120 million Parks, Greenways Recreation and Open Space bond. Renovations and improvements slated for Blue Jay Point focus on modernizing key amenities across the site to significantly enhance accessibility, functionality and the overall visitor experience. Core improvements include the renovation of the habitat education pond, trail upgrades to meet current ADA standards and the expansion and enhancement of parking areas near both the playground and Go Ape Zipline Park. Construction is scheduled to begin fall 2025 and completed by fall 2026. The total investment for Blue Jay Point County Park is $7.3 million.
Playground Area Improvements


Shelter
To better serve visitors, a new shelter will be constructed at the playground area, providing an improved and flexible gathering space.
Traditional Playground
The playground will be enhanced with new shade sail structures creating a more comfortable environment for children to play while extending the equipment’s life.

Nature Playground
The nature play area will be expanded to incorporate additional interactive features while retaining some of the popular existing elements.
Increased Parking Capacity
Thirty additional spaces will be provided in the playground lot, which will also include a designated drop-off area for picnic shelter users.
Park Center Improvements
Goldfinch Room Connection to Education Pond
The Park Center will undergo architectural updates designed to improve functionality and elevate the visitor experience, including an expansion of approximately 200 square feet. A direct and accessible walkway connection from the classroom to the habitat education pond will allow program participants to access the pond via a new nature experience.

Program Pond Enhancement
The Educational Pond will be replaced with one of similar size, while offering varying depths of water for an enhanced experience for both program participants and pond inhabitants alike! Expanded pond dipping areas, ADA-accessibility, seating availability and garden enhancements will also add to the enrichment of this area.

Additional Improvements
Parking Expansions Go Ape
Twenty new spaces will be added to the gravel overflow parking area.
Enhanced Pedestrian Connections
Visitors will notice an increase in connections throughout the park as well as improvements to existing paved walking trails.
Public Art
Artist: Colin Selig, Ecological Sculptor
Colin Selig will be working with us to design and install a unique piece(s) that will enhance the park’s aesthetic and provide a meaningful addition to the community space.
