Northern С»ÆѼÊÓƵ Station 5 is a volunteer-based fire station located at 1431 Lynn Road in Raleigh. The station was originally built in 1974 to house Six Forks Fire Department. Most recently, it has been part of the Northern С»ÆѼÊÓƵ Fire Department.

The station currently houses Northern С»ÆѼÊÓƵ Fire Engine 51 (not staffed) and several С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County EMS trucks.

Current Status

As of 2025, Northern С»ÆѼÊÓƵ Station 5 is an unstaffed, volunteer-based response fire station covering only 27 parcels. Over the last six years, the call volume for this station was 13 calls.

Due to the volunteer status of the station, the first arriving units for these calls typically came from other staffed stations such as Durham Highway, Western С»ÆѼÊÓƵ, and Raleigh fire departments.

A recent response analysis performed by С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Fire Services recommended redistricting those 27 parcels served by Station 5. The district realignment will take effect on July 1, 2025.

What does Redistricting Mean?

Responses are typically not occurring from Station 5. Therefore, no change in emergency response times is anticipated after the redistricting.

The 27 parcels currently served by the station will be reassigned and served by other local fire departments, which are already nearby and most frequently respond to calls in the area. These include:

  • Durham Highway Fire Department
  • Western С»ÆѼÊÓƵ Fire Department

Raleigh Fire Department may also respond to calls in this area.

Insurance Concerns

Property owners affected by the redistricting will not see any changes to their fire insurance premiums.

More About the Redistricting

Over the years, multiple studies of С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County fire departments’ call volumes and responses have recommended that Station 5 would eventually be redistricted:

  • 1994 TriData Study: Suggested that annexations have and will continue to change the shape, size, demographics, and tax bases of local fire districts, including that of Station 5.
  • 2003 TriData Study: Recommended redistricting fire services from this location and allowing the building to continue as an EMS station.
  • 2021 С»ÆѼÊÓƵ County Station Optimization Study by ITRE: Recommended redistricting of this station.
