How do I find lists of donors/donations to campaigns?
Candidates and political committees file campaign finance disclosure paperwork in accordance with the level of office in which they are involved. County and Municipal committees file paperwork with their county board of elections and the county is responsible for making the paperwork available to the public.
Campaign finance reports are filed in accordance with the proper and disclose all receipts/expenditures in a given time frame--the Period Start Date and Period End Date.
In С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ County, if a committee chooses to file reports electronically (), you can search for their reports on the by the committee or candidate's name. You can also search for a list of contributions/expenses that match a set of criteria using the .
If a committee chooses to file reports using paper forms, their information will not be available on the NCSBE website. Instead, scanned images of all paperwork received by the С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ County Board of Elections will be made available on the current page. Use the following tools to locate the paperwork:
- To find a particular candidate by last name, click Candidate Committees.
- To find all active candidates or committees involved in a particular contest, click Active Committees Summary.
- To find committees involved in supporting/opposing local bond referenda, click Referendum Committees.
- To find political committees involved in supporting/opposing one or more local candidates, click Political Action Committees.

Paper reports often consist of several pages and will list contributions if they were received within the report period (Period Start Date and Period End Date). The first page will show a report period and the committee information. The second page will show a summary of the transaction totals during the report period. All transaction details (donor information and expense information) should be listed on the subsequent pages.
Who all has filed paperwork to run for a particular office?
In order to have a name placed on the ballot in an election, the candidate must file a Notice of Candidacy during the statutory filing periods at the appropriate board of elections office. Until those times, no official candidate lists will be available. You can find more information about Candidate Filing at this link.
However, candidates and political groups may begin fundraising or supporting/opposing any initiative at any time. If a candidate or committee files any campaign finance paperwork in С»ÆÑ¼ÊÓÆµ County signaling such intent, it can be found using the committee links above.
The Active Committees Summary button has links to candidate/committee paperwork sorted alphabetically by the contest/office sought (Apex Mayor, Apex Town Council, Cary Mayor, and so on).
